The Face of Treasure Coast

Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do was founded in 1989. We are located at Christi's Family Fitness Center, in Vero Beach, Florida. We are a family-oriented Korean-style karate club. We are members of, and certified by, an international karate organization, the World Tang Soo Do Association.

 Head Instructor

The Chief Instructor of Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do is Mr. John Campbell. Mr. Campbell started his martial arts career in 1970, and holds ranks in Kodokan Judo, Shotokan (JKA) karate and Tang Soo Do. Mr. John Torres 3rd dan, Mr. Tim Schmidt 2nd dan, Mr. Rick Tamulevicz 2nd dan, Dr. Ray Adams 2nd dan and Mr. Michael Aamson 1st dan (and also a dan holder in Tae Kwan Do) are assistant instructors. The staff of Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do represents well over a century of martial arts training.

Our Club

Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do has classes for every level of student, beginner to senior. We appreciate diversity of experience in the martial arts, and we welcome students from other styles who want a new challenge. Our students range in age from 5 years old to students in their 60's. Classes are suitable for both adults and children. Because Tang Soo Do is first and foremost a fighting art form, students can expect to learn traditional hand-and-foot fighting, weapons, and self-defense techniques. Tang Soo Do is also a way of life that promotes stress management, physical fitness and the development of discipline and character. We have classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Saturday mornings. We also have classes during the school year at the Charter High School. Although we recognize the fallacy of too much emphasis on sport competition, we do travel to tournaments on a regular basis.

Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do Youth Program

Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do and Christi’s Family Fitness operate a Youth Karate Program. Children between 4 and 9 years of age, who are too young for the intensity and environment of a regular karate class, can participate in the Youth Program. The Youth Program allows younger children to get involved in the martial arts at their level of understanding and capability. Children are trained in physical fitness, basic hand and foot techniques, self-defense, and the theory & philosophy of Tang Soo Do. Children in the Youth Program are periodically tested and ranked at age-appropriate levels. At the age of ten, or when children have matured sufficiently, they can transfer to the regular Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do classes, at the rank of 8th gup, or Orange belt. The Youth Program classes are taught by an adult black belt instructor, with assistance from junior karate students.

Youth Program classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, from 3:45 PM to 4:15 PM. Registration and sign-up can be done at the main counter at Christi’s. Children can wear clothing suitable for a work-out for the first month. If after the first month, parents wish their children to continue in the program, child’s karate uniforms can be obtained from Christi’s.

Treasure Coast Tang Soo Do’s chief instructor, Mr. Campbell, will be available to answer questionsTuesdays and Thursdays before the children’s class, and before the evening and Saturday classes.
